The Upper East Regional Police Command arrested a 36-year-old man over alleged drug distribution at Paga in the Kassena-Nankana West District: the suspect, Tumbana Ane, was apprehended in an operation that seized 38 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.[1][2]

The substances were found in a search of Ane’s residence, where officers also recovered other prohibited substances including Tramadol as investigations into his alleged drug trade intensified.[2] The search also uncovered a suspected escape tunnel, which police believe may have been a hiding place for illicit substances or an escape route; its discovery raised further concerns about the activities run from the residence.[2]

A police statement released on Monday, October 5, 2026 said Ane was in custody and expected to be arraigned, and preliminary investigations linked him to alleged brothel operations at an illegal mining site at Wuru, a suburb of the Kayoro community in the same district.[2] Police said investigations were ongoing to establish the full extent of his activities and identify connected individuals.[2]
