Officers of the Ottana police station, working under the Nuoro police chief, searched two farms in the Nuoro area and reported five men to the prosecutor.[1][2] Cronache Nuoresi says the five were young and were reported while remaining free.[2]

The police seized about three tonnes of marijuana and 10,000 cannabis plants that had been hung to dry.[1][2] In a building that looked abandoned, with barred windows and the entrance chained and padlocked from the outside, they found three workers of foreign origin, one of whom had become an Italian citizen, processing the cannabis.[1][2] Both accounts say the three were kept in isolation, with no way out and no toilets, and that their only task was to work the marijuana.[1][2]

Investigators said one of the five managed those workers. He was also reported for caporalato, illegal gangmaster hiring, and labour exploitation.[1][2] Deputy prosecutor Gabriele Carta at the Nuoro court validated the seizure and is leading the preliminary investigation.[1] The criminal case is still at the investigation stage.[2]
