Police in Mykolaiv detained a 44-year-old man suspected of illegally selling cannabis.[1] Investigators say he sold cannabis among acquaintances in one of the city’s neighbourhoods, processing the substance himself, packaging it and arranging meeting times and places with buyers.[1] Officers documented two sales for which he received 1,800 and 3,000 hryvnias.[1][2]

During a search of his place of residence, officers seized almost 8 kilograms of cannabis kept at the home.[1][2] Officers also seized electronic scales, packaging material, mobile phones and money found with the cannabis during the same home search.[1]

Police notified him of suspicion of illegal production, manufacture or storage for sale on an especially large scale or repeated sale of narcotics.[1] A court ordered that he be held in custody with the possibility of posting 499,200 hryvnias bail while the pre-trial investigation continues.[1][2] The offence carries up to 12 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.[1][2]

He was detained immediately after another cannabis sale.[2] Authorised searches were carried out both at his registered address and at his actual residence.[2] The money seized included money in national and foreign currency.[2]
