Majhola police in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, arrested a man, his wife and his mother on Saturday 31 October 2026 on allegations of trafficking charas and smack.[1] Police named them as Kanta Prasad, his wife Kavita Saini and his mother Rani Saini, residents of Jayantipur Neta Colony in the Majhola police station area.[1] Officers recovered 4.375 kg of charas, a hand-made cannabis resin, and 14.59 g of smack, a form of heroin, police said.[1] They also found 33,600 rupees in cash and two mobile phones.[1]

The arrests came in a raid on the family’s house on Saturday morning by a 15-member police team led by Bhaskar Kumar Mishra, the Circle Officer (CO) for Civil Lines, a sub-district police officer.[2] Police said they had identified Kanta Prasad while checking the records of known offenders on a police database app.[2] He had been released from jail on bail about a month earlier and had started selling drugs again, police said.[2] The family had put CCTV cameras around the house to watch for police, Jagran reported.[2] Kanta Prasad already faced six cases under the NDPS Act, the Excise Act and the Arms Act at three police stations in Moradabad city, his wife one case and his mother two, Jagran reported.[2] In questioning, the three said they had bought and resold charas and smack together for a long time and lived on the money it brought.[1]

Police registered a first information report (FIR), the document that starts a criminal case in India, against all three under the NDPS Act, India’s main anti-drug law.[3] All three were produced in court and sent to jail.[3]
