An investigating judge at the Gyula District Court ordered a 43-year-old man and a 58-year-old man, both from Medgyesegyháza in Békés County, held for one month.[1] The Battonya District Prosecutor’s Office had asked for the remand on suspicion of drug trafficking.[1][2]
The prosecutor’s account, published by Beol, says the 43-year-old decided at the start of 2025 to grow and sell cannabis, using equipment from his wife’s former licensed medical-hemp business and seeds bought in the Netherlands.[1] He first grew plants in pots in a room of his home, dried what he could use and consumed it.[1] In December 2025 he sowed again from those seeds and by March 2026 had raised 100 plants about 150 centimetres tall.[1] He cut them, dried the usable parts into bags and buried at least 2 kilograms in the yard of his house.[1]
He also sold some of what he had grown.[1] One buyer was the 58-year-old man, who took it partly to use and partly to sell on.[1] The judge agreed there was a risk they would flee, offend again or interfere with the evidence, given the sentence they could face.[1]
Körös Hírcentrum said it was reprinting the Békés County Chief Prosecutor’s Office statement unchanged.[2] That text matches the growing, the buried 2 kilograms and the one-month remand, and its headline also gives the second man’s age as 58.[2]
