On 29 January 2026 the Szolnok Regional Court sentenced five men, aged about 50 to 60, for trafficking a significant quantity of cannabis, committed together for regular profit.[1] For nearly five years they grew, dried, portioned, boxed and sold cannabis at a farm in Lajosmizse, a farm in Csépa, and in the reed bed of the Máma-Holt-Tisza.[1][2]
The lightest term was three years and six months in prison, for the third defendant. The first and fourth defendants each received eight years, the first to be served in prison and the fourth in a high-security prison. The first must also pay a fine of 3,600,000 forints. The second defendant received six years and eight months in a high-security prison, and the fifth received five years in prison.[1] The court banned them from public affairs. It also ordered confiscation of tens of millions of forints in cash, electronic goods, jewellery and a series of properties.[1]
The Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county chief prosecutor charged them on 21 July 2023. The court held eight hearings and gave judgment at the last one.[1] The judgment is not final. The prosecution and the first defendant reserved three working days to decide whether to appeal. The other defendants and their lawyers had already appealed. The fourth defendant and his lawyer asked the appeal court for an acquittal. The others asked for lighter sentences. The third defendant and his lawyer also asked that the confiscation be dropped, denying that they had sold the cannabis they grew together.[1] The appeal continues at the Szeged Court of Appeal.[1]
The court press office gave no plant count and no weight.[1]
