A Magadan court sentenced former local polytechnic teacher Sergey Karmazov to six years in a strict-regime penal colony for illegal cultivation of narcotic plants and manufacture of narcotic drugs, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the hearing on 19 November 2025.[1] Police had found two equipped grow rooms at a relative’s house where Karmazov and students had gathered for a ritual that officers interrupted in January 2025.[1]

Regional Interior Ministry spokesperson Kseniya Lukina told journalists that officers seized 35 cannabis plants and several large bags of marijuana from hidden rooms.[1] Investigators also established an attempted sale of more than four kilograms of dried narcotic plant material.[1] Gazeta.Ru, citing RIA, reported that Karmazov had tried to involve students in sacrificing a bull for course credit and asked police to let him finish the rite.[2]

The court found Karmazov guilty of cultivating narcotic plants and processing psychotropic substances and imposed six years’ imprisonment.[1]
