Co’Vaunte Harrell, 22, of Birmingham, Alabama, was arrested and charged with
trafficking in a controlled substance.[1] The charge followed a traffic stop
on Interstate 20 early on Friday 30 October 2026.[2] His bond was set at
$250,000.[2]
Deputies were called at about 3 a.m. about an erratic driver heading east on
Interstate 20.[1] Deputies pulled the car over near mile marker 159, east of
Meridian between the U.S. 45 and Russell exits.[1] Deputy Kelby Cole and his
K9 partner Mark searched the car, and Mark found about 30 pounds of marijuana,
the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department said.[1] Sheriff’s narcotics agents
helped with the case.[1]
The marijuana weighed about 13 kilograms.[1] In Mississippi, marijuana
trafficking applies from 1 kilogram, or about 2.2 pounds.[1] The sheriff’s
department said the investigation was active and ongoing and that additional
charges could be filed later.[2] Harrell has only been charged and has not
been convicted of a crime.[1]
