South African pilots intercepted with 500 kg of cannabis
A Federal Airlines aircraft landed unlawfully at Moshoeshoe I airport with 500 kg of cannabis from Thailand, allegedly destined for South Africa. The pilots were fined M200,000 for unlawful landing and sent back; police denied that it was a cannabis seizure. The cannabis and destination claims were allegations, not court findings.

Banel (Pty) Ltd imported 500 kg of dried cannabis flower from Thailand under a permit dated 27 February 2026; police seized it without producing a warrant.
