Detectives raided a house at Keumbu Trading Centre in Kisii County after a
tip-off from a member of the public and arrested 32-year-old Elijah Amisi Mogire
at the scene, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said.[1] The
search of the house found seven sacks holding about 300 kilogrammes of suspected
cannabis, known locally as bhang.[2] The raid was one of coordinated
anti-narcotics operations in Kisumu, Kisii and Nairobi counties, police said.[3]
The DCI said the operations were part of a nationwide fight against narcotics
and psychotropic substances, involving NANIB, the Crime Research and
Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), the Regional Drug Unit (RDU) and the K-9 Unit.[1]
Most of the cannabis seized across the three operations was recovered in Kisii
and Kisumu.[4] Mogire remained in custody pending arraignment, and the DCI
said the recovered exhibits had been secured and the scenes documented.[1] The
DCI urged members of the public to continue sharing information anonymously to
support the fight against drug trafficking.[1]
