Two police officers were among seven suspects arrested on Wednesday evening after a sting operation found them ferrying cannabis worth Ksh1.7 million in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.[1]
Acting on a tip-off, officers mounted a roadblock at Gitaru along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway targeting two vehicles at around 1:50 am; on interception, 59 kg of cannabis sativa hidden inside three large bags was recovered from one vehicle.[1] A search of the second, escort vehicle identified its driver as a constable attached to Buruburu Police Station and his colleague, also a constable, from Juja Police Station; four other occupants rode in the escort car.[1]
Police opened investigations into possible links between the officers and a larger narcotics trafficking network operating between Nairobi and Nakuru; both vehicles were detained at Kikuyu Police Station as exhibits with the suspects in custody.[1]
