Madaiya police arrested Janata Devi and her son-in-law Rajiv Kumar after seizing 78.160 kg of ganja from a house in Kolwara village.[1] Kolwara lies in the Madaiya police station area of Khagaria district.[2] Janata Devi is the wife of Narad Mandal, whose house was searched, and Rajiv Kumar is from Abhiya village in the Gopalpur police station area of Bhagalpur district.[1] Both were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.[1] They were sent to judicial custody on Friday 30 October.[1] Narad Mandal, whom Prabhat Khabar calls the main accused, fled when police reached the house.[2] Madaiya station house officer Manish Kumar said police were trying to arrest him.[2]

A joint team of police and district administration, led by Parbatta circle officer Harinath Ram and Madaiya station house officer Manish Kumar, carried out the search.[2] The ganja was packed in bags and sacks hidden among maize stalks beside a bamboo clump behind the house.[2] Weighed, it came to 78.160 kg.[2] Police registered Madaiya police station case no. 60/26 under section 8/20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act.[3] The tip reached Madaiya police late on the evening of Thursday 29 October, Dainik Bhaskar reported.[3] Sub-divisional police officer Chandan Kumar Kushwaha said the investigation of the arrested pair was continuing.[1]
