A man was fined Sh24 million after being convicted of trafficking 266.2 kg of bhang valued at Sh7.98 million in Elgeyo Marakwet County.[1] Vincent Odhiambo was sentenced to pay the fine or serve 10 years in prison in default, following a conviction secured by the ODPP under Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Amendment Act, 2022.[1]

The prosecution told the court that on January 18, 2026, Odhiambo, jointly with others, was found trafficking 266.2 kg of cannabis sativa transported in a Toyota Fielder along the Kapchorwa-Torongo murram road in Kamwosor Location, Keiyo South Sub-County.[1] Principal Prosecution Counsel Felix Namasake led the prosecution, calling six witnesses.[1]

The court treated the quantity as a significant aggravating factor and imposed a deterrent sentence, noting its duty to protect the public from narcotics offences.[1]
