Kerala excise officers arrested a 30-year-old man, M J Shamsheer, on the road linking Kanhangad railway station with the town’s bus stand.[1] The arrest was made on 29 October 2026.[1] Shamsheer lives in the Marusu quarters at Kushal Nagar in Hosdurg.[1] The cannabis was being carried on a Ntorq scooter with the registration KL 60 R 9740.[1]

The excise team acted on secret information from the Kasaragod Excise Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, known as EI and IB.[1] The Hosdurg circle team reached the spot after the tip.[2] Officers stopped the scooter and searched it.[2] Circle inspector V V Prasannakumar led the operation.[2] The squad included Kasaragod EI and IB inspector Kesubinraj and Hosdurg assistant excise inspector M Rajeevan.[1]

Shamsheer told the excise officers that he was taking the cannabis to sell.[2] He was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.[2]
