Police were patrolling the JP Wishtown police post area when they received a tip that a young man was standing with ganja near Garhi Kat.[2] Officers surrounded him and caught him.[2] Police said Sharma brought the drug from Delhi and sold it to labourers and passers-by in small packets.[2]

Police registered case 192/2026 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, India’s main drug law.[1] Police also said Sharma had earlier been booked at Sector-24 station for theft and under the NDPS Act, and at Sector-126 under the Arms Act.[1] Sector-126 station house officer Sumneesh Kumar said a first information report (FIR), the initial police report that opens a criminal case in India, had been registered and further action was under way.[2]
