Investigators had received tips some time earlier that a 56-year-old man in Groß-Gerau was growing a larger quantity of cannabis plants at his home and garden plot.[1] Initial inquiries corroborated the suspicion against him, after which the Darmstadt public prosecutor’s office applied for search warrants and a judge issued them.[1] Acting on those warrants, criminal police officers searched the man’s flat on Reichenberger Straße and his separate parcel in a Kleingartenanlage, an allotment garden, both in Groß-Gerau, on Tuesday, 3 November.[1] On the balcony of the flat and in a grow tent at the allotment plot, the officers found a total of 113 cannabis plants and seized them.[2]

The searches and seizure were announced as a joint press release by the Darmstadt prosecutor’s office and the South Hesse police headquarters.[1] Investigators said further inquiries and laboratory examinations still have to clarify whether and how much of the psychoactive substance THC the seized plants contain.[1] The 56-year-old is now under investigation on suspicion of violating the Konsumcannabisgesetz, the consumer cannabis law.[2]
