On 5 March 2026, Het Laatste Nieuws reported that the Brussels criminal court had jailed four men over a cannabis plantation in a villa on Wezelstraat in Grimbergen.[1] An unlicensed estate agent who had rented the house received 36 months.[1] Two Albanian men also received 36 months, and a third received 24 months.[1]
Police had started watching the house after neighbours reported suspicious activity.[1] On 22 August they moved in.[1] The paper said two suspects were stopped in a car and a third was arrested in the villa.[1] The search found a professional installation of 750 cannabis plants in six growing rooms, and 20 kg of harvested cannabis.[1] The agent had rented the house with a false identity and a made-up email address.[1] He had a previous drug conviction and denied any part in the plantation.[1] The judge found his part proved.[1]
The Halle-Vilvoorde prosecutor’s office, speaking the day after the raid, said the search on Thursday 22 August found an active plantation in a rented house on Wezelstraat.[2] Spokesperson Ingrid Moriau said officers found 765 young cannabis plants and about 20 kg of harvested cannabis, some of it already packed, in six growing rooms.[2] The plants and the harvest were seized and destroyed, and civil protection was to dismantle the installation.[2] Officers arrested three suspects, two of them in the villa, to be brought before an investigating judge.[2]
