Police find 70 seedlings in an indoor cannabis farm
Drug-control officers dismantled an indoor marijuana farm and arrested four Kuwaitis, seizing 70 seedlings, a kilogram of prepared cannabis, a firearm and ammunition. The Interior Ministry said cultivation for trafficking can bring death or life under the 2025 law. The raid showed that small indoor grows, not only imports, supply some users.
Kuwait's appeal court confirms death for 120 kg of hashish
The Court of Appeal upheld death sentences for three Iranians caught by the coast guard near Kobar Island with more than 120 kilograms of hashish and 10,000 psychotropic pills. They confessed and said each would be paid KD10,000 for delivering the shipment. The case confirmed that cannabis resin trafficking can still end in a death sentence.
A lawyer gets life for hashish flown from London
The Criminal Court sentenced a well-known lawyer and a Kuwaiti fugitive in London to life for trafficking hashish and psychotropic substances sent by air cargo. A young woman and another Kuwaiti received seven years each. The case showed that air cargo from Europe, not only Gulf sea routes, supplies the market.
A car from Iran brings 100 kg of hashish
Customs and drug-control officers stopped a Kuwaiti citizen returning from Iran on the Shuwaikh ferry and found more than 100 kilograms of hashish and marijuana in hidden compartments in his car. The case pointed to Iran as a source of resin shipped across the Gulf. The suspect was referred to the narcotics prosecution.
A prison inmate runs a 145 kg hashish ring
Police broke up a hashish network holding 145 kilograms of resin and arrested a female suspect, then searched the cell of a non-Kuwaiti inmate who ran the gang from Central Prison. Another accomplice was at large outside Kuwait. The case showed that prison-based dealers can direct smuggling networks beyond the walls.
Kuwait reports 527 trafficking cases in eight months
The Interior Ministry said 527 drug-trafficking cases involving 823 suspects had been recorded since January, alongside 1,359 abuse cases against 1,675 people. Seizures included 959 kilograms of hashish and 142 kilograms of marijuana, far more resin than herbal cannabis, as well as 391 kilograms of methamphetamine and 6.8 million Lyrica capsules. The figures cover all drugs, not cannabis alone.
A Kuwaiti home grow earns a life sentence
The Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti man to life in prison for growing marijuana in his Salwa apartment and selling it. Police found 45 plants and four kilograms of prepared cannabis, along with 37 kilograms of gold bars and precious metals that investigators treated as proceeds. The sentence was passed under the 1983 drug law, five months before its replacement took effect.
Kuwait resumes hangings after a six-year pause
Kuwait hanged three men in April 2013 and two more in June, the first executions since 2007. All five were convicted of murder or rape; no drug offender was among them. The hangings ended a de facto moratorium that had lasted since 2007, in a country whose drug law already allowed death for trafficking.
