2.7 tonnes of hashish seized at Sète in Morocco–France inquiry

Gendarmes stopped a vehicle coming off the ferry at Sète on 24 May and found 2,692 kg of cannabis resin, then arrested the network's suspected logistics chief near Paris. The Lille-led inquiry, run with Moroccan intelligence, says part of the load was bound for Lille.

On Sunday 24 May 2026, French gendarmes intercepted a vehicle as it left the ferry at the port of Sète and found 2,692 kilograms of narcotics, mostly cannabis resin.[1][2] Officers from the Lille research section, backed by the GIGN and gendarmerie units from Nord, Hérault and Nîmes, had tracked the vehicle before it could deliver its load to the Lille area.[1][2]

The driver was arrested on the spot, and a second raid near Paris netted the network’s suspected logistics coordinator, at whose home officers found €34,000 in cash and another vehicle.[1][2] The case began on 13 April, when the Lille prosecutor opened a preliminary inquiry into a ring moving Moroccan cannabis by sea and land; Moroccan intelligence helped map the route and anticipate the shipment.[1][2]

On 28 May the Lille prosecutor opened a formal judicial investigation for organised importation and criminal conspiracy, and both suspects were charged, one being remanded in custody.[1][2]
