Police in eastern Finland finished their investigation into an indoor cannabis grow found in Nurmes and Lieksa and sent the case to prosecutors on 6 July 2026.[1][2]

Acting on a public tip and their own inquiries, officers found a commercial property in Valtimo, in Nurmes, that smelled strongly of cannabis.[1][2] A search on 11 February 2026 found 241 cannabis plants at different stages of growth and some finished cannabis.[1][2] Two further searches at homes in Lieksa found 34 and 17 plants.[1] Police seized the plants and dismantled the grows.[1]

The plants, just over 290 in all, would have produced an estimated 10 to 30 kg of cannabis, police said.[1][2] They put its street value at between €120,000 and €500,000.[1][2]

Three men — a father and his two sons, all of foreign background — are suspected of one aggravated drug offence and two drug offences.[1][2] All three were remanded in custody during the investigation.[1]
