On the evening of 28 January 2026, the investigation agency of Da Nang city police said it had charged Đỗ Hữu Duy, born in 2003 and living in Cẩm Lệ ward, with unlawful sale of a narcotic, and had ordered him held.[1] VnExpress reported the same day that he had been caught in the act and was 23.[2]
The check began at about 5 pm on 19 January.[1][2] Drug-crime investigators and Cẩm Lệ ward police went to a house on Trường Chinh street, which VnExpress gives as number 745.[1][2] They found Duy dividing nearly 8 kg of cannabis to sell.[1][2] In a closed room behind the house were 51 cannabis plants under lights, with watering equipment.[1][2]
He told them he had rented a second house to grow cannabis.[1] VnExpress places it at 201 Cách Mạng Tháng 8, in the same ward.[2] There police found 40 more plants of different sizes, grow lights and an air conditioner running day and night, plus supplies for the crop.[1][2] VnExpress’s caption counts 91 plants seized.[2]
Duy said that from the start of June 2025 he had decided to grow cannabis to sell.[1][2] He bought seed on Telegram, grew, took cuttings and harvested, and sold cannabis in deals he put at about 112 million dong.[1][2] Police called it the largest cannabis growing and selling case found in Da Nang, and said both houses were in a crowded residential area.[1][2] They said the inquiry was still being widened to other people.[1][2]
