Customs and Tax Service officers from the Mazovian Customs and Tax Office in Warsaw checked baggage
at Chopin Airport after a flight from Bangkok and selected two suitcases belonging to a 33-year-old
Greek national.[1][2] He said he did not know the codes to open them.[1][2]
Once opened, officers found four vacuum packages of green plant material wrapped in orange tape;
field and laboratory tests confirmed marijuana.[1][2] They seized 44.9 kilograms, valued by KAS at
more than 2.2 million zlotys on the black market.[1][2]
The man was arrested. A court ordered three months’ pre-trial detention.[1][2] Importing a
significant quantity of narcotics carries three to 20 years in prison and a fine; the Mazovian
office is investigating under the Warszawa-Ochota district prosecutor.[1][2]
