A federal judge sentenced Brayan Mauricio Miranda, alias El Pozoles, to five years in prison for possession of narcotics for commercial purposes.[1] The Fiscalía General de la República prosecuted the case and presented sufficient evidence at the oral trial.[1] The FGR identifies Miranda as one of the leaders of the criminal organization La Unión Tepito.[2] The court also imposed the corresponding fine and ordered forfeiture of the seized drugs.[2]

Mexico City citizen-security officers arrested Miranda in October 2023 while he was driving a vehicle in Colonia Roma Norte in Mexico City.[1] The vehicle search found 496.7 grams of marijuana.[1] The same search also found 538.3 grams of methamphetamine and 18.6 grams of cocaine, which are excluded from the cannabis figures.[2] The drugs were packed in transparent plastic bags, evidence pointing to sale.[1]

The case began under local jurisdiction and passed to federal jurisdiction in January 2024, when the FGR received the declination of competence for the complementary investigation.[1] The Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Mexico City then carried the proceedings through to the oral trial that produced the sentence.[1]
