Units of the Carthage national security district dismantled two networks
specialising in drug trafficking and arrested eight people in two separate
targeted raids.[1] One of those arrested was a woman who is a national of a
Maghreb country.[2] Routine police checks showed that four of the eight were
already wanted under several warrants for their involvement in theft and armed
robbery cases.[1]
The operation yielded one and a half slabs of cannabis resin, known in Tunisia
as zatla, and 25 further pieces of the same resin.[3] Officers also seized
five grams of cocaine and sums of money that were said to come from the sale of
drugs.[2] The eight suspects were all placed in detention, and the
investigation into the two networks was continuing.[1]
The two police operations were described as targeting crime as well as drug
trafficking in the Carthage area.[1] All eight of those arrested were
described as dealers.[1]
