National security units of the judicial police brigade in Bab Souika raided a home on a street called Nahj al-Lagha al-Hafsiya in the Tunisian capital after intelligence work tracking people wanted in public-law cases.[1] The raid ended with the arrest of one man whom police called a dangerous figure of high security interest.[1]
A court had already sentenced him to seven years in prison with immediate effect, and police said he was also wanted in other cases under several search notices issued for different security units and judicial bodies.[1]
With the public prosecutor, officers searched the home and seized quantities of cannabis, called Indian hemp and known locally as zatla, which they said had been prepared for sale.[1] After consulting the public prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Tunis, the prosecutor ordered the suspect held in custody while the investigation continued, to identify the other people and networks linked to the activity.[1]
