Cairo Criminal Court on Sunday sentenced a defendant to life imprisonment for possessing half a kilo of heroin, a large quantity of hashish, a firearm, cartridges and ammunition in the Al-Salam area.[1][2] The prosecution had charged him with possessing and trafficking narcotics and possessing an unlicensed firearm outside the cases permitted by law.[1][2] A second account identifies the convicted man as an unemployed person and says the possession was for trafficking in the Al-Salam police district.[3]

The chemical laboratory report said the seized items included a transparent plastic bag containing brown pieces proven to be hashish listed in Schedule 1 of the drug-control law.[1][2] The same report confirmed seized heroin powder with positive samples for narcotic derivatives.[1]

Cairo security forces acted on information that a person was possessing and trafficking drugs, investigated, set the necessary ambushes and arrested an unemployed man with a criminal record.[1][2] A search found a large quantity of drugs, and the man admitted possessing them for profit and trafficking, with money from sales and a mobile phone for contacting clients, after which legal measures were taken.[1]
