The Cairo Criminal Court of Appeal accepted the appeal of an unemployed man and a housewife against their seven-year aggravated-imprisonment sentences.[1] It reduced their penalty to three years of aggravated imprisonment for possessing the drug Strox, hashish and a folding knife in Ain Shams.[2]

The prosecution said the two possessed 70 bags of Strox, a quantity of hashish and a folding knife for the purpose of drug trafficking.[2] The chemical laboratory reported that a black plastic bag containing brown pieces tested as hashish listed in Schedule 1 of the drug-control law.[2] Cairo Security Directorate officers arrested the unemployed man, described as having a criminal record, after receiving information about drug possession and trafficking, conducting investigations and setting ambushes, and found Strox and cash on him.[1] When confronted he admitted holding the drugs for sale and said the housewife shared in his criminal activity, after which officers arrested her and found hashish in her possession.[2]

Officers found a quantity of hashish in the woman’s possession after targeting her.[2] Both were then referred to the Public Prosecution, which sent them for criminal trial.[2]
