The Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police, raided an industrial warehouse in Cabanes, a few kilometres from Figueres and the French border, on 1 October 2026, arresting seven men aged 29 to 55 as they unloaded pallets from a trailer into vans and seizing 8,025 kg of hashish.[1][2][3]
The drug was hidden in large sacks of rubber granules, a method that camouflages it in an ordinary load and complicates police and customs checks. The investigation by the narcotics group of the DIC in Sant Feliu de Llobregat began in June 2026, after Mossos intercepted a van carrying nearly 2,400 kg of hashish in Viladecans, near Barcelona; it led to the Cabanes warehouse, where surveillance showed comings and goings with no visible business activity. In early October officers saw an articulated truck arrive and people fixing new number plates to vehicles with cable ties, apparently to complicate identification; with the ARRO reinforcement unit of Girona they moved in. A firearm was found in one of the vans.[1][2]
The seven were brought before the court in Figueres. Four of them, considered the main figures of the network, were remanded in pre-trial detention without bail, and three more were remanded with the option of bail, the Catalan high court (TSJC) said; they are prosecuted for drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal organisation.[1] The police valued the hashish at more than 16.2 million euros on the illicit market and said the seizure alone is over half of the nearly 14,900 kg of hashish the Mossos had intercepted in 2026 up to 1 October — their biggest strike against resin trafficking, per the force.[1][2][3]
