Police in Zakamensky district acted after the district duty unit received information that a local resident might be storing a plant-based narcotic substance, travelling to the stated address to verify the report.[1] During an inspection of the outbuildings there, officers discovered and seized a polymer bag of plant material with the characteristic smell of wild-growing cannabis from a 28-year-old man.[1] The detained man fully admitted his guilt and explained that he had independently gathered wild cannabis himself in a field nearby for his own personal use.[1]

A forensic examination confirmed that the seized plant material was cannabis.[1] Police reported that the total weight of the drug in dried form was more than 2 kilograms, an amount they classified as large.[1] The Buryatia Interior Ministry was cited as the source of the account, which described the operation as the suppression of large-scale trafficking of narcotic drugs in Zakamensky district.[1] A criminal case was opened over the seizure.[1]
