The driver of a white Mazda CX-5 abandoned the vehicle and escaped after a pursuit along the Malaba-Webuye highway.[1][2] The Mazda collided with a red TVS motorcycle, registration number KMFV 109F, during the chase.[1][3][4] The motorcyclist, identified as Muzungu Munialo, sustained fatal injuries in the collision.[1][5][2][4] The pursuit that killed the rider is also described as a high-speed police pursuit in which a motorcyclist was killed.[3] Traffic officers processed the accident scene before detectives searched the abandoned vehicle.[1][5][2] The Directorate of Criminal Investigations sent condolences to Munialo’s family, friends and relatives following his death.[1][2] Detectives are pursuing the driver who fled and are working to establish the wider network behind the suspected trafficking operation.[1][2]
A detailed search at the police station uncovered 162 bales of cannabis wrapped in yellow adhesive tape, weighing 170.8 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of Sh5,124,000.[1] The 162 bales are separately described as cannabis wrapped in yellow cellotape with an estimated street value of 5,124,000 shillings.[3][5][2][4] Detectives also recovered an additional number plate, registration number KF2 8588, from the back seat, which investigators suspect was intended to conceal the vehicle’s identity.[1][3] The vehicle and seized narcotics have since been handed over to NANIB Bungoma for further investigations.[1][5][2][4]
Detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau in Bungoma, alongside DCI Webuye West officers, intercepted the white Mazda CX-5 suspected of transporting narcotic drugs.[1][2] Detectives had laid an ambush along the Malaba-Webuye road following credible intelligence about the vehicle, registration number KDY 338F.[1][5][4] When the Mazda approached, the driver reportedly spotted the detectives and sped off, triggering the chase.[1][3][2][4] The Mazda was towed to a police station for a comprehensive examination before the cannabis was found.[1][2]
