Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) seized more than 582 kg of suspected cannabis sativa and arrested five people in intelligence-led operations across Kisumu, Kisii and Nairobi counties, the agency said in a statement on Sunday, 1 November 2026.[1][2] Detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Bureau (NANIB), the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), the Rapid Deployment Unit and the K-9 Unit took part.[1][2]

In Kisumu, officers intercepted a gold Toyota Axio, registration KCM 214Q, at the Kisumu Boys Roundabout.[1][2] The driver defied orders to stop, so officers shot out the car’s front-left tyre; the driver escaped in the commotion while 21-year-old co-driver Frida Night Odour was arrested as she tried to flee.[1][2] A search found suspected cannabis packed in seven Manila sacks plus loose material in the car, weighing 282.55 kg with an estimated market value of Ksh8,656,500.[1][2] Officers also recovered 40 dozen packets of suspected uncustomed Supermatch cigarettes valued at Ksh40,000.[2]

In Kisii, officers acting on a tip-off from a member of the public raided a house at Keumbu Trading Centre and recovered seven sacks of suspected cannabis weighing about 300 kg.[1][2] Elijah Amisi Mogire, 32, was arrested at the scene.[1][2]

In Nairobi, a team led by the Jogoo Road OCS raided a two-bedroom house in Jericho Estate, Buruburu, and recovered 1,002 rolls of suspected bhang hidden in a black polythene bag, with an estimated street value of Ksh5,750.[1][2] Three suspects, Noah James Kariuli, Calvin Malibo and Brian Ndolo, were arrested and booked at Jogoo Road Police Station.[1][2]

The DCI said the exhibits were secured, the scenes documented, and the five suspects remained in custody pending arraignment.[1][2]
