Police in Thika netted over 265 kg of bhang valued at over Sh5 million in Kiganjo Estate during the weekend.[1] Working with community policing, Thika Sub County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi said officers seized the narcotic packed in eight gunny bags and loaded in a personal vehicle on Friday night.[1]
Three suspects aboard the vehicle escaped after being confronted: patrol police spotted the vehicle parked roadside in the estate while gunny bags were being dropped, and on approach the occupants fled, abandoning the consignment.[1] The vehicle and drugs were impounded and moved to the nearby Kimuchu police post.[1]
Muchangi said police suspected a well-known bhang trafficker under police watch who had repeatedly secured bond releases to continue supplying the region; a manhunt was launched and the public urged to share information, with an appeal to courts against lenient bail for such criminals.[1]
