Troops of the 13th Brigade of the Colombian army eradicated illicit plantings in the vereda of El Caleño, in Yacopí, Cundinamarca.[1] El Dorado Radio, the station of the Cundinamarca government, says the soldiers were from Infantry Battalion 38 Miguel Antonio Caro.[1]
They pulled up about 1,000 marijuana plants and destroyed a nursery of about 2,000 coca seedlings, on about two hectares, and seized 22 kilograms of marijuana the army called creepy.[2][1] They also took down a processing structure of about eight metres by eight.[2][1] Caracol Radio described it as plastic, with a drying system, electric heaters, a digital scale, wiring, chemicals and production tools.[2] Brigade commander General César Augusto Martínez, quoted by El Dorado Radio, described a metal-tube structure with drying equipment, scales, wiring and chemicals, including hydrogen, used to prepare the marijuana for distribution in the department.[1]
Governor Jorge Emilio Rey said the crop had been in the ground for about six months, and that illicit crops of this kind, especially marijuana together with coca seedlings, had not been recorded in Cundinamarca for more than 20 years.[2][1] He said the department would not allow that economy to return.[2] The reports name no one arrested.[2][1]
