On 28 October 2026 the Bamberg Traffic Routes Control Unit of the Schweinfurt Main Customs Office seized drugs during a vehicle check on the A3 near the Biebelried interchange.[1][2][3][4] Officers had pulled an Austrian-registered rental car from moving traffic for the check.[1][2][3][5][4] The 33-year-old Austrian driver had said he carried no prohibited items, but officers found about 200 grams of cocaine in a backpack on the passenger seat.[1][5][4] The 33-year-old suspect was placed in pretrial detention.[1] The vehicle check took place on the A3 near the Biebelried interchange.[6]

Service dog Murphy alerted immediately in the boot and pinpointed a bag holding the main haul of about 3,600 grams of marijuana divided into several.[1][2][3][5][4] Those bags were carefully sealed in film.[1][5] A follow-up search at the Dettelbach customs office found just under 200 grams of hashish, 12 grams of amphetamine and accessories for consuming and portioning drugs.[1][2][3][5][4]

Proceedings were opened against the suspect for suspected violations of the Narcotics Act and the Cannabis Consumption Act.[1][5] At the request of the Würzburg public prosecutor an investigative judge issued an arrest warrant and the suspect is in pretrial detention.[1][3][5][4] The Munich Customs Investigation Office now leads the further investigation.[6][5][4] The suspect is presumed innocent until finally convicted.[1]
