Nur Mohammad Sheikh, 37, was detained with ganja, the local term for cannabis, in Raipur in Baliakandi Upazila on 3 November 2026.[1] A mobile court, an executive magistrate-led court that tries offences caught on the spot, sentenced him to three months of imprisonment without labour and a 500-taka fine under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.[2] Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Syed Murad Islam, the chief executive of the subdistrict, led the mobile court and imposed the sentence.[1]
Officers caught Sheikh red-handed after searching his body during an anti-drug mobile-court drive in the Raipur area.[1] The drive ran in the morning to midday as part of separate Department of Narcotics Control operations in Baliakandi, Rajbari District on the same day.[1] Sheikh is the son of Siraj Sheikh of Raipur.[1]
The Department of Narcotics Control, the national anti-drug agency, said Sheikh was sent to Rajbari District Jail after the mobile-court verdict.[2] Members of the department’s Rajbari district office conducted the day’s operations.[2]
