Brazil’s Federal Police incinerated about 500 kilograms of marijuana in the
Araraquara region on Tuesday 3 November 2026.[1] The marijuana had been seized
in recent flagrantes, arrests made while offences were under way, in the
Araraquara region.[1] The operation was carried out by the Federal Police
station in Araraquara.[1] It was the station’s second drug incineration in
2026, and the two destructions together bring the amount destroyed this year to
about one tonne.[1]
Officers carried the drugs in sacks to the incineration site.[1] The Federal
Police said the destruction forms part of its measures to combat drug
trafficking.[1]
Under Brazil’s Drug Law, destruction depends on court authorisation, with a
sample of the drugs kept as evidence for the proceedings.[1] The burning is
carried out by the responsible police chief in the presence of the Public
Prosecutor’s Office and the health authority.[1]
