A 36-year-old resident of Oktyabrsky District was convicted of acquiring and
possessing cannabis without intent to sell.[1] Leninsky District Court
sentenced her to three years and six months in a general-regime correctional
colony.[1] The court said police found a polymer bag in the yard of her home
and recorded the cannabis weight as 120.043 grams.[1] The police account gave
the seized marijuana’s weight as 122 grams.[2] Police said the woman was
detained and investigators opened a criminal case for unlawful possession.[2]
She said she had acquired the cannabis herself for personal use, and the court
cited witness testimony, expert findings and other case materials in support of
its finding.[3] The Jewish Autonomous Oblast appellate court left the sentence
unchanged.[3] The court described recidivism as an aggravating circumstance.[3] It said her suspended sentence for a similar offence was revoked, after
which she served a general-regime prison term and was released three years
earlier.[3]
