Algeria sets drug tests for job applicants and pupils
Two decrees of 14 January 2026 set the rules for the drug tests introduced by the 2025 drug law. Job applicants in the public and private sectors must file a negative test taken within the previous three months; a positive result blocks the application until the person completes treatment, though the decree says it is not a permanent exclusion.

Pupils and students can be tested during periodic health checks, or when they show behavioural problems or a reasonable suspicion of use; minors need a parent’s written consent, and a refusal can be taken to a juvenile judge.[1]
