A prison inmate runs a 145 kg hashish ring

Police broke up a hashish network holding 145 kilograms of resin and arrested a female suspect, then searched the cell of a non-Kuwaiti inmate who ran the gang from Central Prison. Another accomplice was at large outside Kuwait. The case showed that prison-based dealers can direct smuggling networks beyond the walls.

The Interior Ministry said 527 drug-trafficking cases involving 823 suspects had been recorded since January, alongside 1,359 abuse cases against 1,675 people. Seizures included 959 kilograms of hashish and 142 kilograms of marijuana, far more resin than herbal cannabis, as well as 391 kilograms of methamphetamine and 6.8 million Lyrica capsules. The figures cover all drugs, not cannabis alone.

Customs and drug-control officers stopped a Kuwaiti citizen returning from Iran on the Shuwaikh ferry and found more than 100 kilograms of hashish and marijuana in hidden compartments in his car.
