Acting on a tip-off, Zimbabwe Republic Police officers searched a field in Ruwaka Village, Chimanimani, and found 770 dagga plants, known locally as mbanje, growing alongside a maize crop.[1][2] They also recovered processed dagga.[1][2]
Officers arrested 73-year-old Lovemore Zambasira and 38-year-old Liberty Maunganidze on Monday 26 October.[1][2] The pair were in custody and expected in court on charges of unlawful cultivation of dagga.[1] Police said growing dagga without a licence remains a criminal offence and that operations against hidden plantations would continue across the country.[1]
