Yangmei Precinct officers on patrol in Yangmei District on 3 November stopped two drivers for traffic violations and arrested both after drug saliva screenings came back positive, sending both cases to the Taoyuan prosecutors on drug and public-danger allegations.[1][2][3] Around 8am in front of No. 10 Huandong Road, officers stopped 62-year-old Ou riding an ordinary heavy motorcycle for failing to use his indicator and ignoring lane markings.[1][4][2] Ou answered repetitively, agreed to a saliva test that was positive for heroin and methamphetamine, was found carrying heroin, and was arrested on the spot.[1][4][2][5][3] Around 5pm in Lane 161 Zhongshan Road, officers stopped 63-year-old Peng driving a car for failing to signal, found he was unlicensed and nervous, and arrested him after his consented saliva test was positive for cannabis and methamphetamine.[1][4][2][5][3]

Police handled both cases as suspected violations of the Drug Hazard Prevention Act and public-danger drug-driving offences for investigation by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office.[6][4][2][5][3] The cannabis component in this mixed two-case operation is Peng’s cannabis-positive screening alongside methamphetamine, while the other driver’s screening was for heroin and methamphetamine.[6][5]

Yangmei Branch said 9 drug-driving cases had been logged since tougher penalties took effect on 31 October, with 160 recorded this year.[1][2] Branch chief Wu Chuan-ming said police would keep strictly enforcing against drug-driving to protect other road users.[6]
