Washim police seized 350 kg of ganja from two trucks in two separate operations on the Samruddhi Expressway, confiscating contraband worth about two crore rupees as investigations began.[1]
On information that ganja was being smuggled in a truck around Malegaon on the expressway, a vehicle check found the contraband being transported in it; police seized 150 kg of ganja from that truck.[1] A second operation took place around Karanja on the expressway: on information from Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district superintendent Prabhat Kumar that ganja was being secretly carried inside an Eicher truck’s cabin, the vehicle was checked and district traffic branch police recovered 200 kg of ganja from it.[1]
Police superintendent Nikesh Khatmode Patil said 350 kg had been seized in the two anti-ganja operations carried out that morning: in the Malegaon limits operation, patrolling police grew suspicious of a truck and stopped it, and the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled; 150 kg was seized from it.[1] Police said exactly how many accused were involved would emerge only after investigation, and a large smuggling racket may be exposed by the major action.[1]
