A joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs officials intercepted a Ford EcoSport in the Mungiakami area of Tripura’s Khowai district on Tuesday, 6 October 2026.[1] A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 340 kg of ganja.[2] Officials valued the haul at around Rs 1.74 crore.[2] The driver fled from the spot, and no arrest was reported in connection with the seizure.[3]

The vehicle allegedly used to transport the contraband was also seized.[1] The seized cannabis and the vehicle were handed to Customs for further investigation and legal proceedings.[2] The operation followed intelligence inputs and sustained surveillance aimed at tracking suspected narcotics movement in the area.[2] Assam Rifles said operations against drug trafficking networks along routes in the Northeast would continue to be intensified.[1]

A police official said dry ganja produced in Tripura is not consumed locally and is smuggled to various states, including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where it fetches higher prices.[4] The official said consignments are often seized from trucks, small vehicles and even passenger trains during transport.[3]
