On 29 October 2026 the Iasi Court of Appeal finally closed the Vaslui
drug-trafficking case.[1][2]Vlad-George Gavril must serve four years in prison
for continued trafficking in risk and high-risk drugs.[3]Stefan-Danut
Mormenchi, sentenced as a repeat offender, must serve six years in prison.[1]Dumitru-Cristian Zlatan’s initial four-year term was reduced on appeal to three
years and six months after the court counted three material acts instead of
four.[1]Stefan Brudiu received a two-year prison term suspended under
supervision for two years with an obligation to perform 120 days of unpaid
community work, while minor Crina Badarau received a six-month non-custodial
educational supervision measure.[1]
Investigators identified cannabis, 3-CMC, 4-CMC, MDMA and amphetamine among the
substances in the case.[3]From Mormenchi the court ordered confiscation of
6.41 grams of cannabis, 54 tablets containing MDMA, five other MDMA tablets and
powder quantities with MDMA, amphetamine and caffeine.[1][2]From Zlatan the
court ordered confiscation of 1,000 lei from two transactions in February and
March 2025 in which cannabis and substances containing 4-CMC were sold.[1][2]
The file was handled by DIICOT’s Vaslui Territorial Office with officers of the
Vaslui Organized Crime Combat Service, using surveillance and authorized drug
purchases.[1]The three custodial defendants keep executable terms of four
years, six years and three years and six months, with the other two keeping the
first-instance measures.[1]
Only the 6.41 grams of cannabis from Mormenchi is separately weighed; the cannabis sold by Zlatan has no separate weight and MDMA, amphetamine and cathinone quantities are excluded from cannabis figures.
Three different custodial terms of 4 years, 6 years and 3 years and 6 months cannot be represented in the single prison figure, so no prison figure is given.

Romania's Constanța appeal court sentenced DZ to seven years for bringing 3 g of cannabis and four MDMA tablets into the country. On 3 November 2026 the EU Court of Justice held that the severity gap with Dutch penalties alone cannot justify refusing his surrender.

Prosecutors' DIICOT appeal will be retried on 12 November 2026, with steps for Khalifa to join by videoconference.
