Mustafa Hibroj, an Albanian national, was sentenced on 18 May 2026 by Ilfov Tribunal to four years in prison for international and domestic trafficking of high-risk drugs after trying to import 21.3425 kg of cannabis through Henri Coandă–Otopeni airport.[1] Judges also barred him from entering Romania for five years after he serves the term and ordered the cannabis destroyed and €340 found on him forfeited.[1] He appealed to the Bucharest Court of Appeal, so the sentence is not yet final.[1]
Border police stopped him on 17 October 2025 after he landed on a flight from Greece and tried to leave through the “nothing to declare” channel without collecting a checked trolley later found to hold 49 vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis.[1][2] Romania’s General Police Inspectorate (IGPR) said DIICOT and airport border officers caught him in flagrante with about 22 kg in the suitcase on the Athens–Bucharest route.[2]
Prosecutors said Hibroj first claimed he did not know the contents and had been promised €500 to deliver the bag, but the court found he knew what he was carrying and intended to supply the domestic market.[1] He later admitted the facts under a simplified procedure, yet judges still imposed the merged four-year term without extra leniency.[1]
