During a vehicle inspection at Deurali in Belaka Municipality-5 on Monday evening, police stopped a pickup truck and found 159.4 kg of marijuana packed in six sacks and concealed inside sacks of rice husk.[1][2] The truck bore registration Province 1-02-002 Cha 5290.[2]
Driver Pashupati Safi, 28, of Saptakoshi Municipality-8 in Saptari district, was arrested on the spot and taken into custody for investigation.[1][2] The Belaka interception was the latest of three Udayapur operations in about 36 hours: an abandoned pickup with 940.44 kg had been found that morning on the Ranitaar-Beltar road in Chaudandigadhi, and 22-year-old Bishwaraj Rai had been caught a day earlier near Katari allegedly carrying marijuana toward Siraha.[1][2] Together the three busts netted a combined 1,209.84 kg, and police say the hunt for the wider network continues.[1] Across the operations officers also impounded two Bolero vehicles; the drugs and vehicles were transferred to local police offices for further investigation.[2]
