Police in Tiruvannamalai arrested seven people, including three women, and were continuing questioning over alleged ganja and intoxicant sales.[1] More than 100 police officers led by SP (Superintendent of Police) Udayakumar joined sudden surprise searches in areas suspected of storing ganja and intoxicants in houses for sale.[1] Officers used drone cameras to search Kalnagar, Samuthiram Nagar, Manalurpet Road, Poomanthakulam and several other places in and around Tiruvannamalai.[1]

In houses and crematorium-ground hiding places, officers seized about 1,500 grams (1.5 kg) of ganja, the Tamil term for cannabis.[1] Officers also seized 200 liquor bottles that had been stored for sale on the black market.[1]

Police said the drone-assisted searches were part of work to control ganja and intoxicant sales in Tiruvannamalai.[1] The famous Karthigai Deepam festival would soon be held in Tiruvannamalai, and security arrangements were being intensified for it.[1] Police were carrying out sudden checks in Tiruvannamalai and surrounding areas while monitoring the activities of old offenders.[1]
