Thoothukudi police seized 338 kg of ganja, allegedly smuggled from Andhra Pradesh, during a vehicle check on the East Coast Road at Kulathur in the late hours of Friday 2 October, arresting three people.[1]

A police team inspecting traffic on the ECR stopped a car and a mini fish truck that approached suspiciously; searching both vehicles, officers found ganja bundles concealed among fish crates — 169 bundles of about 2 kg each, 338 kg in total.[1] The three travellers were identified as Joshua Gnanaraj, 47, of Alamathi in Tiruvallur district, Dhanavel, 51, of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, and Yadala Srinivas Kalyan, 24, of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh.[1]

Questioning revealed they had travelled to Thoothukudi claiming to buy fish, loaded fish crates on the mini truck, hid the ganja among them, and meant to smuggle it into Sri Lanka.[1] The men, consignment and vehicles were handed to the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau for further investigation.[1]
