On 25 October 2026 officers of Jalisco’s regional police commissariat, on preventive patrols in tracks and highland areas of San Martín de las Cañas, in the municipality of Tequila, found two plots used for suspected marijuana and a drying centre.[1][2] The two fields covered a combined 22,880 square metres (about 2.29 hectares).[1][2]

Police counted about 95,000 standing plants and about 3,000 plants about a metre tall in the dryer, for a total of about 98,000.[1][2] They notified a federal public prosecutor, took samples and photographs, then burned the plants on site.[1][2] Defence and National Guard units in the Valles region supported the work.[1][2]

Intelligence estimates put the black-market value of the material at 102.9 million pesos.[1][2] No arrests are named in the reports opened.[1][2]
