Police in Tapanuli Selatan arrested a 45-year-old farmer identified by the initials AN in Sihuik Huik village, Angkola Selatan, on Tuesday 11 November 2025.[1] They found 29 cannabis plants growing among the oil palms on his land.[2] The arrest followed a report from residents suspicious of activity in the palm-oil plot.[2] Officers went to his house with the village head, and he admitted planting the cannabis.[2] They uprooted all 29 plants and seized them as evidence.[2]

AN told investigators he had grown cannabis since early 2025.[2] He said he bought cannabis for Rp45,000 from a man around February 2025 and planted the seeds.[3] Police said an acquaintance identified as D, who supplied the seedlings, is still being sought.[2] AN first moved nine seedlings into the palm plot.[3] He harvested the plants in mid-2025 and sold the cannabis to others.[3] He then planted 29 new plants in September.[3]

AN is being held at the Tapanuli Selatan narcotics unit.[2] He has been charged under Articles 114 and 111 of Indonesia’s 2009 narcotics law.[1] The charge carries a maximum of 20 years in prison.[1] Police said the district police would not stop pursuing drug trafficking.[2] They asked residents to report suspicious drug activity.[2]
